Timothy 2:1-2

First of all, then, I urge that petitions (specific requests), prayers, intercessions (prayers for others) and thanksgiving be offered on behalf of all people, for kings and all who are in (positions of) high authority, so that we may live a peaceful and quiet life in all godliness and dignity.  

Praying for people makes a difference, whether they are family or people in leadership. We need to pray to intercede on behalf of God to fight against the evil influence. We, as believers, have more influence and spiritual power through prayer than we know. Our prayers invite God into the situations to influence them to live Godly lives.
