Proverbs 12:1

Whoever loves instruction and discipline loves knowledge, but he who hates reproof and correction is stupid. 

Instruction and discipline keep us away from sin, and sin will take us a long way from God. When God corrects us, He loves us and is trying to keep us safe. We cannot harden our hearts to God, turn to sin, and expect our lives to go well.
