Deuteronomy 30:19

I call heaven and earth as witnesses against you today, that I have set before you life and death, the blessing and the curse; therefore, you shall choose life in order that you may live, you and your descendants.  

The abundance of life revolves around our choice to love God and follow His ways or not. We choose what path we follow. Circumstances will pressure our resolve, but when we focus on the word, it becomes clear that Jesus overcame the world. Do not quite!
